Saw this yesterday at the fresh market when we were shopping for ingredients for our big Thai dinner. It broke my freaking heart:
Yeah, those are little baby bunnies wearing dresses and being sold in tiny cages for about 5 dollars. It seriously would have been less upsetting to me if they were dead and skinned, ready to be eaten than seeing them dressed up in such an effed up display. Gah. I know this culture is very different from my own and that there will be things I don't agree with....this just really got to me.
The rest of the market was quite a cool experience. I went with Jekky and her friend Bee to buy all the ingredients for the epic Thai dinner they cooked us. It was nice to be there with Thai people to see how things are actually done. And when we were all done, we crammed all our bags and the 5 of us into a tuk tuk! This was my first tuk tuk ride, since I've been avoiding them like the plague. If you're a foreigner, the drivers inevitably charge too much and insist on making special "stops" along the way to shops where they want you to look around and buy things (they get commision from the owners for taking tourists there). But taking a tuk tuk with some locals was no problem, and a lot of fun to be all smushed in like sardines. You can't even see Jekky in the tuk tuk picture because she's sitting on the floor.
