Thai massage!
Went to the Wat Pho School of Traditional Thai massage the other day and got a one hour full body massage. It was definitely an experience. I was led to a large, dimly-lit room with lots of mats on the floor where others were already being massaged. The woman gave me some loos-fitting cotton pants and a shirt to change into. I knew there was some potential for pain--I'd heard all about traditional Thai massage from Jekky and others. However, I gotta say that for the most part, I found it incredibly relaxing. There were definitely some uncomfortable moments--like when she dug her knee into my hamstring and then put all her weight into it....yeesh. I was twisted into some interesting pretzel-like positions and pushed to the max until my back was popping up a storm. The bottom drawing in the above picture is actually a pretty apt representation. There was lots of knuckle cracking in fingers and toes, which sort of gave me a PTSD flashback to my childhood (thanks a LOT Debbie!). My favorite part I think was when she had me lie with my head in her lap whil she rubbed my scalp, neck, and face. Strange to be in such an intimate position with a total stranger who I can't even verbally communicate with, but at the same time really quite awesome. And the best part? The whole thing only cost me about 8 dollars. I see many more massages in my future....
