What I learned today: the secret to bargaining is to smile, laugh, and have fun! I learned this on Khao San Road (see the KFC picture), which is a big tourist/backpacker hotspot (hence the KFC). I haven't seen that many white people since I left Wisconsin. Got some really cool clothes, which I am excited to wear so I don't have to wear the stinky ones I brought anymore. The effectiveness of doing your laundry in a sink is severely overrated, especially when you sweat bullets all day and you're using sketchy backpacker soap. Later I took a cab ride to the Grand Palace with the nicest taxi driver I've had yet. He bought some fried bananas from someone at a stop light and shared them with me. Then we sang 'Till the End of Time by Whitesnake together with the radio. His English was pretty bad, but he knew every word. It was pretty epic. At the Grand Palace, I decided not to go inside since I realized I wasn't appropriately dressed (must wear long pants!), and I wouldn't have had much time to poke around before they closed. However, I did get a nice man to take my picture outside the gates, so at least I can say I was close. Now I'm at the internet cafe getting really really annoyed with the 10 year old boys next to me LOUDLY playing video games, peeking over my shoulder, and making fun of the way I type. I hope they can speak enough English to read this. Damn kids. Apparently they're just as annoying here as they are back home. ;-)
